Expert view: Transforming analytical workflows with Transmission Raman

Over the last decade, Transmission Raman spectroscopy (TRS) has been increasingly implemented in pharmaceutical laboratories as a highspeed, accurate, quantitative analysis solution.
Here, Dr Julia Griffen discusses how this technique is transforming analytical workflows.
TRS is a molecular spectroscopic technique that provides information about the chemical species within a sample. ‘Transmission’ Raman is different to the more common ‘backscatter’ Raman approach because it has 180° excitation-collection optical geometry, which permits a large sampling volume.
TRS is predominantly used in quantitative analysis of oral solid dose (OSD) forms for routine QC tests such as content uniformity (CU), assay and ID; enabling fast, non-destructive bulk analysis with no solvent or disposal.
