The winners of the Cleanroom Technology Awards 2018 have been announced. The awards have been introduced to recognise and reward achievements, celebrating the best product innovations from those exhibiting at the Cleanroom Technology Conference 2018 (16-17 May)…

There were four categories:

  • Best Cleanroom Facility
  • Best Cleanroom Innovation
  • Best Exhibitor Product – Consumables
  • Best Exhibitor Product – Technology

The Best Cleanroom Facility and the Best Cleanroom Innovation were judged by John Neiger, editor of Cleanroom Air and Containment Review and Susan Birks, former editor of Cleanroom Technologymagazine.

Connect 2 Cleanrooms (C2C) has taken home the award in the project category Best Facility. The company was recognised for its cleanroom build for medical technology group Convatec.

Cleanroom Solutions received the Highly Commended award for its project at the Cambridge Graphene Centre for the University of Cambridge.

In making their decision for the Best Facility award, the judges considered each entry in terms of completeness and clarity (detail and visual information), project scope and technical difficulty, client requirements and prestige, use of innovative technology, energy efficiency and sustainability.

The judges felt that all the nominations were of a very high calibre but chose the Convatec medical technology cleanroom by C2C as the winning entry. This was because of the company’s comprehensive project presentation, which was not only broad in scope but also showed careful consideration of aesthetics, energy efficiency and sustainability while meeting budget and timeline constraints, and making good use of the latest build technology and methods.

Although very different in scope, the judges felt that the University of Cambridge Graphene Centre (Electrical Engineering) project by Cleanroom Solutions deserved a ‘Highly Commended’ award because of its impressive technical complexity.

Shortlist for Best Facility Project:

  • Connect 2 Cleanrooms — Convatec medical technology group cleanroom
  • CASTIUM — Decontamination at The Francis Crick Institute
  • Cleanroom Solutions for the University of Cambridge — Cambridge Graphene Centre – Electrical Engineering

Best Cleanroom Innovation

Honeyman Group received the Best Innovation Award for HydroGienic, a patented pharmaceutical water distribution system. This game-changing innovation not only provides economic advantages and ease of installation, it also offers flexibility, sustainability and overall operational benefits.

For the Best Innovation category, the judges based their decision on product innovation, potential for widespread application, likely impact on the cleanroom sector and on clarity, detail and visual completeness of the entry.

All six shortlisted entries for the Best Innovation highlight the wide-ranging opportunities for cleanroom operators to improve both performance and compliance through the use of innovative and more efficient tools.

Shortlist for Best Innovation 2018:

  • Connect 2 Cleanrooms — particles plus technology
  • EFAFLEX — the SRT-CRC door
  • Honeyman Group — HydroGienic pharmaceutical water distribution system
  • Lighthouse Worldwide Solutions — ApexZ portable particle counter
  • TSI – OPC Foundation certified facility monitoring software (FMS)

Visitors of the conference also voted for the best-in-show awards in the consumables and technology categories, and the result was revealed at the end of day one of the conference.
