Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced its nomination for three prestigious European Outsourcing Awards (EOA). The EOA nominations included two entries for Best Contract Analytical Project for the application of Thermo Scientific Watson LIMS (laboratory information management system) in bioanalysis and one entry for Most Improved Process/Plant Facility and Best e-Business/IT Strategy for Thermo Scientific CONNECTS in pharmaceutical manufacturing. The EOA recognizes significant developments in contract services and rewards successful companies for their outstanding contributions and achievements across the pharmaceutical industry throughout the year.
The nominations for Thermo Scientific Watson LIMS focused on Thermo Fisher’s work with Accelera, an independent company within the Nerviano Medical Sciences Group, and at the bioanalytical laboratory of PRA International.
For Accelera, the company facilitated regulatory compliance by using Watson to manage and process statistical data related to ELISA (Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay) experiments in line with GLP regulations. Following the installation of Watson, Accelera has experienced considerable benefits including guaranteed regulatory compliance as well as increased laboratory productivity and accelerated sample turnaround.
PRA International selected Watson LIMS to manage a vast workload of 175,000 samples per year, provide a platform to support profitable growth in an increasingly competitive market and supply superior service to their customers. Since its implementation at PRA International, the system has enabled flawless transmission of data between the company and the multiple pharmaceutical sponsors it serves, while improving laboratory productivity and minimizing costs.
The third nomination focused on Thermo Scientific CONNECTS and its ability to deliver enterprise-level productivity by integrating its laboratory operations with the manufacturing floor at the Global Pharmaceutical Supply Group (GPSG) of Janssen-Cilag Farmacêutica Ltda. The unique integration solution at GPSG consists of laboratory instrumentation, informatics software, enterprise systems and document management tools that provide a fully integrated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. Implementing CONNECTS now enables GPSG to easily, quickly and more reliably access data to make better-informed decisions. In addition, the solution has enabled seamless integration of their Thermo Scientific LIMS and chromatography data system (CDS) with their laboratory instruments and ERP (enterprise resource planning) system, thereby ensuring full regulatory compliance.
“Being recognized in three separate EOA award categories is a great honor and shows how Thermo Fisher Scientific is providing breakthrough informatics solutions to the global life sciences industry,” said Dave Champagne, vice president and general manager, informatics, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “These three applications demonstrate how we work with and enable our customers to automate and integrate their laboratory operations, cost-effectively manage samples and resources, capture and analyze quality data, provide essential reports and ensure regulatory compliance. No other company offers more breadth and depth across the full scope of laboratory operations, from small single-purpose laboratories to complex integrations across global enterprises.”
